Terms and Conditions of Sale

Article 1: Seller Identification

Air d'Orient is the trading name of Cyril PIERRI, a sole trader (entrepreneur individuel) registered in France, whose business address is in Paris (Île-de-France region).

Address: 9 rue des Colonnes, 75002 Paris, France. Telephone: +33 7 67 79 70 94. Email: contact@airdorient.fr. You can use these contact details for any complaint and to tell us that you are cancelling your contract; the address to which products must be sent back is given in the acknowledgement of your cancellation (Article 9).

SIRET number: 91127245800025.

Air d'Orient is the publisher of the website https://airdorient.fr/en-za/, hosted by o2switch and built with the WordPress content management system.

The content of the site (texts, product pages, photographs) is protected by French intellectual property law: any reproduction is prohibited, as is any extraction or reuse of the articles and product descriptions written by Air d'Orient.

A “customer” is any natural or legal person who buys one or more products on the site; a “visitor” is any natural or legal person who visits the site https://airdorient.fr/en-za/.

These general terms and conditions of sale (the “Terms”) apply to orders placed on the site and can be consulted at any time before you place an order.

Air d'Orient may amend these Terms at any time. The version in force on the date of your order applies.

Article 2: Scope

These Terms govern distance sales by Air d'Orient to consumers through the English-language shop at https://airdorient.fr/en-za/, with delivery to South Africa.

Before confirming your order, you must accept them by ticking the box provided, which is never ticked in advance. You can consult, download and print them at any time. The version in force on the date of your order applies; this version applies to orders placed from 8 October 2026.

To buy, you must be of legal age in your country or have the permission of a parent or guardian, and you must be the holder of the payment method used or be authorised to use it. You agree not to use the site for any unlawful purpose. Air d'Orient may remove any customer review that is abusive or incites hatred.

Language of the contract: the contract is concluded in English.

Article 3: Products

Air d'Orient has no warehouse of its own: products are shipped directly by our partner suppliers, located in Europe and in China. Air d'Orient remains at all times your only point of contact and the party solely responsible to you for the sale.

Our products are inspired by Middle Eastern and North African crafts and traditions, but they are not necessarily made in those regions.

Each product has its own product page describing its main characteristics. Photographs show the product as faithfully as possible; slight colour differences may occur depending on your screen. Products are offered while stocks last: if a product you have ordered is unavailable, we will tell you and refund the amount paid without delay.

Air d'Orient may add, withdraw or change the products on sale at any time; this does not affect orders already confirmed. If you have a question about a product, please write to contact@airdorient.fr before buying.

Article 4: Prices, Delivery Costs and Payment

Prices are final prices, shown in the currency of the version of the shop you are using: euros on the shop for Ireland and Malta; US dollars, Canadian dollars, Australian dollars or South African rand on the shops for the United States, Canada, Australia and South Africa.

Prices in US, Canadian and Australian dollars and in South African rand are converted from our euro prices using the European Central Bank reference exchange rate, then rounded. The price that applies, and the currency in which you are charged, are those shown in your basket when you confirm your order.

VAT not applicable — article 293 B of the French General Tax Code (CGI).

Delivery to South Africa: free. The total amount of your order is shown clearly before you confirm it.

Payment on delivery: for deliveries outside the European Union (for example to the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia or South Africa), customs duties, taxes or clearance fees may be charged on receipt by the customs authority or the carrier of the destination country. They are not included in the price, unless otherwise stated when you order, and are payable by the recipient. For deliveries to Ireland and Malta, if your order is worth more than €150, VAT, any customs duties and carrier fees may be requested from you on delivery.

Prices may change at any time, but the price shown when you confirm your order is the one that applies.

Discount codes advertised on the site apply under the conditions stated in each offer.

You can pay by:

  • bank card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or, where available in your country, Klarna (pay in 3 instalments), through the secure Stripe payment platform;
  • PayPal (single payment), except on the shop for South Africa, where PayPal does not accept the rand.

Payment data are processed directly by these providers; Air d'Orient has no access to them. By confirming your order, you authorise the charge of the total amount of your order.

Your order is prepared once payment has been received. If payment fails or is refused, we may suspend or cancel the order; if it is cancelled, you will not be charged, or you will be refunded in full.

Article 5: How to Order

You do not need to create an account to place an order. The process is as follows:

1. Choose your products and, where applicable, their options (size, colour, personalisation).

2. Check your basket: products, quantities, total price and delivery costs. Until final confirmation, you can correct any input error.

3. Enter your delivery and billing details.

4. Accept these Terms and click the order button, which commits you to pay.
5. Payment.

Before you confirm your order, the products chosen, the total price including any taxes, and the delivery costs are shown clearly.

At each step you can go back to change your basket or your details.

Orders are processed only once payment has been received.

Article 6: Order Confirmation and Invoice

After payment you will receive by email, within 24 hours at the latest:

  • your order confirmation (order number, products and total price);
  • your invoice.

We recommend that you save or print these Terms; the model cancellation form can be downloaded at any time from our returns page.

These documents and these Terms form the contract; please keep the email.

You do not need an account to buy. You can track your parcel on our tracking page with the number you receive by email and, if you lose your invoice, just write to us and we will send you a copy.

The delivery time starts from the order confirmation.

Article 7: Cancelling or Refusing an Order

As long as your order has not been shipped, you can cancel it.

To do so, write to contact@airdorient.fr stating your order number.

We will refund the full amount within 14 days of confirming the cancellation, using the payment method you used for the purchase, at no cost to you.

Once your order has been shipped, it can no longer be cancelled in this way, but you can still exercise your right to cancel (Article 9).

If you live in Canada, you also keep the cancellation rights given to you by the consumer protection law of your province, for example if your order is not delivered within 30 days of the delivery date indicated (or of the order date, if no delivery date was indicated); we will then refund you within 15 days.

If you live in the United States and we cannot ship your order within the time stated, we will tell you, and you may cancel your order and receive a full and prompt refund. If you live in South Africa, you may also cancel your order if it has not been delivered within 30 days of the date agreed (or, if no date was agreed, of the order date); your 14-day right to cancel in Article 9 is longer than the 7-day cooling-off period of section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act.

Air d'Orient may refuse an order for a legitimate reason, for example an unusual order, signs of fraud or an earlier dispute over the payment of an order.

In that case we will tell you by email: you will not be charged, or you will be refunded in full.

Article 8: Delivery

Air d'Orient shows the estimated delivery time for each product on its product page. The delivery time starts when you receive the order confirmation email. Unless the product page states otherwise, delivery will take place no later than 30 days after the contract is concluded.

Delivery times vary according to the product and the quantity ordered. For information:

  • Estimated delivery time: 3 to 7 days;
  • Delivery to South Africa: free.

These times may vary depending on product availability, transport conditions or possible customs delays; the time for each product is shown on its page. Air d'Orient remains responsible for the proper delivery of your order until you receive it: the risk of loss or damage passes to you when you, or a person you designate (other than the carrier), take physical possession of the parcel.

Please give a complete and accurate delivery address: Air d'Orient cannot be held responsible for a delivery problem caused by a wrong or incomplete address that you provided. If a parcel is returned to us for that reason, we will contact you to resend it or refund it.

If your order contains several items, you may receive them in separate parcels and on different dates. You will receive a tracking number by email so that you can follow your parcel.

When ordering, you can choose home delivery or delivery to a pick-up point, depending on the options available for the product and for your country. If the chosen pick-up point is unavailable, Air d'Orient will redirect the parcel to the nearest alternative pick-up point; we will tell you by email (from contact@airdorient.fr) and you should check the details of the new pick-up point before going there. The parcel must be collected within the time allowed; otherwise it is returned to the sender.

If your order is late, it is not cancelled automatically and Air d'Orient will inform you by email. If you have not received your order within the agreed time, you may give us an additional period of time appropriate to the circumstances, by writing to contact@airdorient.fr; if we still do not deliver within that period, you may terminate the contract and we will refund all sums paid without undue delay. If the delivery date was essential and this was agreed before the purchase, you may terminate the contract immediately.

If an order does not arrive, Air d'Orient carries out a check before any refund or reshipment. Air d'Orient is not responsible for non-delivery caused by a wrong address that you provided, by force majeure or by an unforeseeable event.

If the parcel arrives visibly damaged, we recommend that you refuse delivery and note the reasons on the carrier’s delivery slip. If you cannot check it on delivery, please report any visible damage or defect to us as soon as possible by email to contact@airdorient.fr, with photos: a quick report lets us open a claim with the carrier sooner. This quick report is not a condition: in all cases you keep the legal guarantee of conformity (Article 12) and the guarantee against hidden defects (Article 13).

Article 9: Right to Cancel (Right of Withdrawal)

Under Directive 2011/83/EU on consumer rights and Articles L221-18 and following of the French Consumer Code, you have the right to cancel this contract within 14 days without giving any reason. The cancellation period will expire 14 days after the day on which you, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you, acquire physical possession of the goods. If the period ends on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, it is extended to the next working day.

If your order includes several goods delivered separately, the period runs from the day you receive the last item. If you live outside the European Union, this 14-day right to cancel also applies to you under these Terms.

How to cancel:

  • Online (recommended): using the form on our returns page, available here, to exercise your right to cancel: fill in the form (name, order number and email), click “cancel contract here”, then “confirm cancellation”. You will receive without delay, by email, an acknowledgement of receipt showing the content of your cancellation and the date and time it was sent.
  • By email or by post: by sending to contact@airdorient.fr the model cancellation form (downloadable here) or any other clear statement, with the subject line “Cancellation — (your name)”. You can also write to us at 9 rue des Colonnes, 75002 Paris, France.

You do not have to give a reason, and to meet the cancellation deadline it is sufficient to send your communication before the cancellation period has expired. Sending the product back without telling us, or refusing delivery, is not enough to cancel: we need your statement to identify the order.

Returning the product:

Once we have received your cancellation, Air d'Orient will send you by email, within 48 hours, the address to which the product must be returned (in France or in your country, depending on the product) and, where possible, a prepaid return label. Our business address in Paris is not a return address.

You must send back the goods without undue delay and in any event no later than 14 days from the day on which you tell us that you are cancelling; the deadline is met if you send back the goods before the 14-day period has expired. If we send you a prepaid return label, the return costs you nothing; otherwise, you will bear the direct cost of returning the goods, unless Air d'Orient failed to inform you of this beforehand, in which case Air d'Orient will bear it. If possible, return the product with its packaging, accessories and instructions.

Refund:

If you cancel this contract, we will reimburse all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (with the exception of any supplementary costs resulting from your choice of a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us), without undue delay and in any event no later than 14 days from the day on which we are informed of your decision to cancel. We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.

We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of the reimbursement. In case of delay, the increases provided for in Article L242-4 of the French Consumer Code apply.

Exceptions to the right to cancel:

Under Article 16 of Directive 2011/83/EU (Article L221-28 of the French Consumer Code), the right to cancel does not apply to:

  • goods made to your specifications or clearly personalised (Article 10);
  • goods liable to deteriorate or expire rapidly;
  • sealed goods which are not suitable for return due to health protection or hygiene reasons, if they have been unsealed after delivery;
  • goods which, after delivery, are by their nature inseparably mixed with other items.

The product page indicates when a product is excluded from the right to cancel. A model cancellation form is available to you, although you do not have to use it. You can download it here.

You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from handling other than what is necessary to establish their nature, characteristics and functioning. If the returned product has been damaged or has lost value for that reason, Air d'Orient may deduct that loss of value from the refund and will explain why by email.

Article 10: Personalised Products

Some items are made to order using information you provide: a first name, a text, a date, a photo or a design. These personalised products are identified as such on their product page.

No right to cancel. Because they are made to your specifications, these items are excluded from the right to cancel (Article 16(c) of Directive 2011/83/EU; Article L221-28, 3° of the French Consumer Code). An item that matches your order cannot be exchanged or refunded simply because you have changed your mind.

Check your personalisation. Before confirming your order, check the spelling, dates, characters (Latin, Arabic, Japanese…), colours and the quality of your photos. The item is made exactly as you specify: a typing error on your part is not a defect. If we have any doubt, we will contact you before production.

Content we refuse. You guarantee that you hold the rights to the texts, photos and designs you send us. We refuse protected trademarks, logos, characters or works used without authorisation, images of other people without their consent, and any abusive, discriminatory or unlawful content. In that case, the order is cancelled and refunded in full.

Production time. The production time is included in the delivery time shown on the product page, within the maximum set out in Article 8.

Appearance. Colours, engravings, embroidery and prints may differ slightly from the preview shown on screen; this is not a defect.

Guarantees still apply. Personalised products remain covered by the legal guarantee of conformity (Article 12) and the guarantee against hidden defects (Article 13). An item that is faulty, damaged on delivery or different from the details you approved will be replaced or refunded.

Article 11: Gift Cards

We no longer sell gift cards. Gift cards already issued remain valid under the conditions below and can be used only on our site.

Gift cards are digital and are sent by email (PDF) after payment.

A gift card is valid for at least the period required by the law of the country where you live (for example, 5 years in Ireland and in the United States, and 3 years in Australia and in South Africa; in several Canadian provinces, gift cards may not expire), and in any case for at least 1 year from its date of issue.

Conditions of use:

  • Only one gift card can be used per order.
  • The balance can be used in one or more goes within the validity period.
  • If your order exceeds the card balance, you pay the difference with another payment method accepted on the site.
  • If your order is less than the balance, the remainder stays available for a later order within the validity period.

Gift cards cannot be exchanged for cash, except where the law provides otherwise.

Any order paid with a gift card is governed by these Terms.

If an order paid for wholly or partly with a gift card is cancelled, or if you exercise your right to cancel, the part paid with the card is credited back to you as a balance you can use on the site, and the part paid with another payment method is refunded to that same payment method.

Article 12: Legal Guarantee of Conformity

All our products are covered by the legal guarantee of conformity provided for in Articles L217-3 to L217-20 of the French Consumer Code, which implement Directive (EU) 2019/771 on the sale of goods.

This guarantee is free of charge and requires no prior formality.

Duration: Air d'Orient is liable for any lack of conformity that exists at the time of delivery and becomes apparent within two years of delivery.

Presumption: unless proven otherwise, any lack of conformity that becomes apparent within two years of delivery is presumed to have existed at the time of delivery.

Remedies: you can choose between repair and replacement, unless one of these options is impossible or disproportionate. As we have no repair workshop, we will usually offer you a replacement or, if that is not possible, a refund.

If bringing the product into conformity is impossible or is not done within a reasonable time, you can ask for a proportionate price reduction or terminate the contract and be refunded in full.

Bringing the product into conformity is free of charge for you, including delivery costs.

How to use this guarantee: write to contact@airdorient.fr giving your order number and describing the problem. If possible, attach photos or a video, which help us resolve it faster. We will tell you the solution and, where necessary, how to return the product at no cost to you.

Telling us later about a defect that was visible on delivery does not make you lose this guarantee. However, damage caused by a modification or misuse of the product on your part is not a lack of conformity, nor is a defect that you knew about, or could not reasonably have been unaware of, at the time of purchase.

These rules apply without prejudice to any more favourable mandatory rules of the country where you live. For example, in Ireland you may reject faulty goods within 30 days of delivery and obtain a full refund, and your rights may last up to six years.

Australia: our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

Canada: the consumer protection laws of your province, including any legal warranty that goods must be fit for normal use for a reasonable length of time, apply in addition to these Terms, and nothing in these Terms excludes them.

United States: nothing in these Terms limits any implied warranty that the law of your state does not allow us to exclude or limit. South Africa: the implied warranty of quality in sections 55 and 56 of the Consumer Protection Act applies; you may return a defective product within six months of delivery and choose its repair, replacement or a refund.

In every country, the 14-day period in Article 9 concerns only the right to cancel: it never limits your rights in respect of a faulty product.

Article 13: Guarantee against Hidden Defects

As these Terms are governed by French law (Article 18), you also benefit from the guarantee against hidden defects under Articles 1641 and following of the French Civil Code (Code civil), where it is more favourable to you. This guarantee covers hidden defects that make the product unfit for its intended use, or that reduce that use so much that you would not have bought it, or would have paid less for it, had you known about them.

This guarantee entitles you to a full refund of the price (by returning the product) or a partial refund (by keeping it, with a price reduction), as well as compensation if the product has caused you harm.

You can also obtain a replacement of the product.

Three conditions must be met to rely on it:

  • the defect was hidden (it was not visible at the time of purchase);
  • the defect makes the product unusable or greatly reduces its use;
  • the defect existed at the time of purchase.

You must take action within two years of discovering the defect (Article 1648 of the French Civil Code).

To do so, write to contact@airdorient.fr explaining the situation, giving your order number and stating the solution you would like (refund, price reduction or replacement, and compensation where applicable).

Any request must be accompanied by proof of purchase. We recommend attaching photos or a video of the defect.

Under this guarantee, it is for you to prove that the hidden defect exists.

If Air d'Orient knew about the defect, you can also claim compensation for any harm caused directly by the product.

Air d'Orient undertakes to act in good faith in the event of a hidden defect or a lack of conformity and to explain the applicable procedure to you personally. This guarantee does not replace the legal guarantee of conformity in Article 12, which is usually easier to use.

Article 14: Personal Data and Cookies

Air d'Orient processes the personal data needed to handle your order: first name, surname, delivery address, email address and telephone number. Payment data are processed directly by Stripe and PayPal. These data are processed in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR).

The processing is based on the performance of the sales contract and on our legal obligations. We do not sell your data to third parties.

Your data may be passed to the service providers needed to perform the contract: carriers, payment platforms (Stripe, PayPal) and the partner suppliers responsible for shipping.

Some of these suppliers are located outside the European Union, in particular in China: only the data needed for shipping (name, delivery address and telephone number) are passed to them, solely so that your order can be delivered. Article 9 of our privacy policy explains these transfers.

You can exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction and portability by writing to contact@airdorient.fr. You can also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular the one in the EU country where you live (in Ireland, the Data Protection Commission; in Malta, the Information and Data Protection Commissioner; in South Africa, the Information Regulator) or the French CNIL.

Retention: your order data are kept for the duration of the customer relationship and then for 3 years from the last commercial interaction, unless the law requires otherwise. Invoices are kept for the period required by law.

The site uses cookies; non-essential cookies are placed only with your consent, which you can give or withdraw using the cookie banner. If you disable some cookies, certain services may become unavailable.

For full details, see our privacy policy.

Some links on https://airdorient.fr/en-za/ may be affiliate links (for example to Amazon): if you buy through them, Air d'Orient may receive a commission, at no extra cost to you. These links are clearly identified in the content concerned. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Article 15: Force Majeure

Neither party is liable for failing to perform its obligations where this is caused by an event of force majeure; Air d'Orient will inform you without delay.

If force majeure prevents delivery for a lasting period, you may terminate the contract and we will refund the sums paid.

Article 16: Severability

If any clause of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, it will be deemed not to have been written.

The other clauses remain fully in force.

Article 17: Customer Service and Complaints

You can contact us or make a complaint by email (contact@airdorient.fr), by telephone (+33 7 67 79 70 94), by post (9 rue des Colonnes, 75002 Paris, France) or through the contact form on the site. Air d'Orient will acknowledge your complaint and reply as quickly as possible, and in any case within 15 days of receiving it.

If you are not satisfied with our reply, you can refer the dispute free of charge to our consumer mediator, the CM2C, whose details are shown below. This applies whatever the country you live in.

CM2C – Centre de la Médiation de la Consommation de Conciliateurs de Justice
49 rue de Ponthieu, 75008 Paris, France
Tel.: +33 1 89 47 00 14
Website: www.cm2c.net/declarer-un-litige.php
Email: litiges@cm2c.net. Mediation is conducted in French.

The European Online Dispute Resolution platform closed on 20 July 2025. The European Commission now presents consumer redress options and the list of dispute resolution bodies in each country: consumer-redress.ec.europa.eu.

Article 18: Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by French law.

However, this choice does not deprive you of the protection afforded to you by the mandatory provisions of the law of the country where you are habitually resident (Article 6 of Regulation (EC) No 593/2008, “Rome I”). If you live outside the European Union, it likewise does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer protection rules of your country, province or state.

In the event of a dispute, please contact us first so that we can look for an amicable solution (Article 17).

You may bring proceedings before the courts of France or before the courts of the place where you live.

If you live in the European Union, Air d'Orient may bring proceedings against you only before the courts of the country where you are domiciled (Article 18 of Regulation (EU) No 1215/2012).
